Dear "Friend",
I know, I know. You had just gotten over last year's photos of me running in a Speedo (as if last year wasn't brutal enough). On the noteworthy side, TIME magazine listed them in the top ten most disturbing news pics of 2020, so it's nice to be recognized.
So here is the deal. I will be doing my deep training again to complete the sub-1 mile run (the Vegas Over/Under is me finishing in 47 minutes). I will be doing this for the Play Ball Foundation, which as you can read below, makes a real impact on middle school kids in Boston, Lawrence, and Holyoke. I am asking for your support in this endeavor.
What's in it for you? Well, mainly being a good citizen and creating opportunities for kids who otherwise wouldn't have them. More pragmatically, the sooner I hit my goal, the sooner you won't have to see me clad in my Speedo. And, spoiler alert, I am in significantly worse shape than last year. In the immortal words of Kurtz at the end of Heart of Darkness "the horror, the horror"
So I would be very appreciative of your support. Really, it would mean a lot. Below are the details on the run and Play Ball.
- The Santa Speedo Run is a fun run that supports the Play Ball Foundation.
- Between December 4th - December 11th hundreds of festive participants “run” slightly less than a mile in neighborhoods near and far, wearing fun holiday attire (Speedo optional!). Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,500.00 that will go directly to the Play Ball Foundation, whose mission is to increase school engagement for middle school students in under-resourced communities by creating and supporting school-based team sports opportunities.
- Through the experience of team sports, Play Ball seeks to inspire students to succeed in school, become engaged in their school communities and develop social-emotional skills that will make them better prepared for success in middle and high school. Currently Play Ball supports over 3,200 middle schools students in Boston, Lawrence & Holyoke. Your support will have an immediate impact on the communities we serve!
Any donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for the Santa Speedo Run to benefit the Play Ball! Foundation. And, perhaps more importantly will help you avoid seeing what you can't unsee.
